Gaza war: Israel’s brutality and global inaction

by Analysis Desk March 4, 2025 0 Comment

Israel has been engaged in a ruthless war of extermination against the Gaza Strip for more than 15 months, on a scale not seen since World War II. Hamas attacked Israeli military bases and settlements close to the edges of Gaza on October 7, 2023. At least 60,000 people have died or gone missing in the destruction that has been inflicted on Gaza. 140,000 have been injured, with women and children accounting for 60% of the casualties.

There are about 2 million internally displaced Gazans. The Zionist regime methodically destroyed every aspect of civilian life during this ceaseless assault. It included hospitals, clinics, schools, universities, bakeries, markets, roads, and power plants. Sewage and water desalination plants, public buildings, mosques, churches, and most residential buildings and neighborhoods.

Gaza’s 470 days of horror

Despite widespread condemnation by more than 170 countries, genocide in a 365-square-kilometer enclave. It has been shown live on television and streamed for 470 days, leaving the world immobilized and powerless to stop it. Its termination has been demanded by the UN’s secretary-general, the General Assembly, the Security Council, and the International Court of Justice (ICJ). As well as by innumerable tribunals, human rights groups, and other organizations. Around the world, tens of millions of people have protested. They are calling for an immediate end to the unspeakable agony endured by the Gaza population.

In addition to significant shortages of food, water, electricity, and gas for heating, injured and ill Palestinians have been severely deprived of medical supplies. It is the result of Israel’s devastating siege and ruthless war of hunger in Gaza. It has become unsettlingly regular to witness scenes of stray canines scavenging human remains and toddlers dying from severe colds. However, the Zionist regime has not stopped its homicidal onslaught.

US military aid for Gaza

The United States has made it possible for Israel to carry out this campaign by giving it more than $22 billion in military assistance. It also helped with diplomatic protection, political cover, and other types of support. The complicit Biden administration just informed the US Congress of a further $8 billion package of military equipment and ammunition for Israel as a farewell gift.

Israel has effectively rejected every effort made by the UN and other mediators. Especially Egypt, Qatar, the US, and others, for more than a year. In May of last year, US President Joe Biden offered the release of hostages in exchange for a multi-phase agreement. He wants to end the war.

Although the plan was approved by Hamas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quickly rejected it. In a similar vein, Netanyahu rejected a draft agreement that Egypt and Qatar had put out in early July with implicit US assent. Israel has stepped up its military campaign despite these efforts. It was murdering hundreds of Palestinians every day, seizing additional territory, and forcing the bulk of the population to leave their homes. Continuing to demolish as much of Gaza’s infrastructure as it could.

However, the Zionist authority failed to destroy Hamas or find a replacement to govern Gaza despite the slaughter. Netanyahu is still unable to declare a “total victory” or use military force to secure the captives’ release. In the meantime, the Israeli army is still losing a lot of soldiers in its attrition-based conflict with Islamic resistance groups in Gaza. The growing casualties and lack of any specific strategic goals have been seen by numerous military observers.

Examining Trump’s view

The US President, Donald Trump, hopes to start his administration without inheriting this deadlock in this monumental failure. When he ran for president last summer, he urged Netanyahu to “finish the job” by eliminating Hamas. Trump has since turned his attention to putting an end to the disastrous war after seeing no progress on that front. He declared that if the hostages were not freed by the day of his inauguration, hell would erupt.

It’s unclear what more Trump might do to the Palestinians than the Zionist regime has already done, even if many saw this as a threat against Hamas. Steve Witkoff, Trump’s new Middle East envoy, met with Netanyahu and told him there would be dire repercussions if no compromise was struck. In a matter of days, Netanyahu gave in and agreed to all the demands that Hamas had previously made and that he had previously refused.

It should be obvious who prevailed and who lost in this troubling chapter. Without the Palestinians ‘ tenacity and opposition, there could not have been an accord. Netanyahu failed to secure the complete submission of the Palestinians. On October 7, the Palestinians carried on their fight for freedom and self-determination by successfully breaking the chains of their captivity. Through this agreement, they have demonstrated to the world that they are not deterred in their quest for freedom.
