IUNW Concludes Meetings with Diplomatic Missions at UNHRC Over ECOSOC Status
The International United Nations Watch held several meetings with diplomatic missions at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva over the process of granting NGOs the ECOSOC Status and the work of NGOs and member states at UNHRC, some of which is being politicized where accusations of using political money by NGOs and member states raised many concerns recently.
IUNW stressed the need to make sure the UN work is independent and in line with its charter and founding principles.Member states of UNHRC shared the same concerns, noting that allowing freedom of speech and giving NGOs the platform to be part of human rights work does not mean allowing them to spread propaganda and accept political money, which harms the image of the UN itself.
IUNW is a Scotland-based NGO that seeks to monitor the work of the UN and has organized several activities recently to achieve this goal. For the next year, IUNW will focus on the work of UN agencies including UNHRC, as well as evaluating the UN 2021-2026 human rights agenda.
