Israel’s Claimed that United Nation Relief and Work Agency is a terrorist organization 

With the passage of every single day Israel’s actions against the Palestinian people become cruel day by day. Also they crossed the many red lines since it started its aggressive campaign. ICJ( International Court of Justice), the United Nations’ top judicial body, warned Israel to end this conflict and stop implementing its so-called political tactics on Palestinians. Additionally, the International Criminal Court (ICC) requested arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, but this also failed to impact Israel’s conduct.

But Israel ignored it and has not changed its behavior. Israel does not think about its behavior and its oppressive policies. These actions of Israel clearly highlight that the ICJ’s decision and this ruling have not been enough to stop Israel. They still continue to harm people living in Palestine. 

Israel’s crossing all of its limits. The clear example of it is the recent action of Israel. They are defying the international Community and the United Nations. Back to July 22, when the Knesset approved a bill. According to this bill, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) is a “terrorist organization.”

Earlier in January, Israel blamed that many UNRWA workers were also involved in the Hamas attack, attempted on October 7. Isael also claimed that UNRWA and Hamas both have strong connections and are also working together. These actions seem like a clear attempt by Israel to discredit UNRWA and its efforts.

Many believe that the actions of UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres were not fair. All those UN staff members named by Israel fired without any strong proof. After this action many donors from Western countries stopped giving funding to UNRWA. It is the humanitarian agency that helps many Palestinina s refugees and provides them essentials and many facilities. 

However, in April 2024, an independent review led by former French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna found that Israel’s accusations of collusion between Hamas and UNRWA were unproven. No evidence has been presented against the 12 accused UNRWA staff members. This suggests the initial decision to fire these staff members was based on unfounded claims. It seems that more careful consideration and investigation were needed before taking such drastic actions that had significant consequences for the organization and those it serves.

There is an urgent need for help in Gaza. And many countries f=decided to refund UNRWA once again, including Germany, Italy, Australia, and Canada. The UK’s new foreign secretary made a statement on July 19,  David Lammy said it is the moral duty of every nation to donate for needy people according to their resources. He also stressed that UNRWA. is vital because no other group can provide the necessary level of help. Yet, despite support from its allies, Israel keeps targeting the UN agency.

Israel’s claim that UNRWA is a terrorist organization is an attack on the United Nation itself. UNRWA is important for refugees that were created in 1949.  If this becomes law, it would let Israel legally attack UNRWA’s staff and buildings without needing to justify these actions, which they often call “tragic mistakes” when criticized. This action could result in more destruction and also worsen the situation more and more. 

If Israel is successful in proving UNRWA, a terrorist organization, they might feel relaxed in excluding its 30,000 staff members. It also includes the leader, Philippe Lazzarini.This view aligns with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s claims since October 7, which the International Court of Justice (ICJ) considers illegal since it’s using force to defend an illegal occupation. 

It is the duty of the United nation to strongly respond to this latest move by Israel. This step is also crucial to stop a possible mass killing of UNRWA staff. If immediate action is not taken then the situation becomes very critical. 

It is crucial to know that the UNRWA situation is deeply concerning. Lazzarini warned the UN Security Council in April about the illegal efforts to close UNRWA. This campaign brought many insecurities and also threatened global peace. Taking bold and decisive action is necessary to recover from these alarming situations. If Israel succeeds in its aim, it might be too late to prevent violence.
