Gaza war: European Union should rethink its deal with Israel
According to Simon Harris, the Irish prime minister, it is important for the European Union to reconsider its partnership with Israel. This nation continued to mistreat the people who lived in Gaza and other parts of Palestine. Recently Israel attempted a strong attack on the AI-Taibeen School in Gaza. Israel’s military force was involved in this attack that took the lives of many innocents and also many people injured.
This incident also destroyed the homes of many poor families. It is being called the worst attack in northern Gaza since another tragic incident at the al-Maamadani Hospital. The situation is so dire that only 75 victims have been identified from all over. Many of the remains are so damaged that rescuers have to estimate that every 70 kilograms of remains might represent one life lost. This highlights the seriousness of the situation and also the ongoing violence of Israel on Palestinians.
Harris also stated,
“ We have all been horrified by the many undoubted war crimes that have been committed in Gaza. There can be no impunity. Those responsible must be held to account.”
It is very concerning to know that humanitarian aid to Gaza is significantly dropping day by day. One can easily understand this with the number of trucks delivering supplies falling from around 169 per day in April to fewer than 80 per day in June and July. The prime minister was very upset with this situation. He also stated that Irland strongly opposed the terrible and widespread loss of civilian lives. Harris also highlighted that, according to the United Nations, more than 80% of Gaza is under evacuation orders. When people are told to go anywhere, they have no place to go. Most of the people end up taking refuge in schools.
He also pays attention to the urgent need for a ceasefire. He also requested the International Court of Justice to call for the end of the “illegal” occupation of Gaza to be fully and immediately enforced.
The terrible attack carried out by the Israeli military on early Saturday took the lives of many people and left behind nothing but blood and destruction. The United States also said that they strongly opposed this incident and also felt very bad after knowing the reports of civilians being killed in Gaza.
A US official, Sean Savett, mentioned that they are asking for more information and are very worried about the situation. This attack has made people around the world angry and shows how urgent it is to stop the fighting and work on a deal to free hostages. The US is working hard to make this happen.
As usual, the Israeli military claimed they were targeting important Hamas leaders, but the images and videos from the scene show many dead children and body bags, which raises serious doubts about their claims.
However, it is very troubling to know that the US still supports Israel and gives them aid again and again. Everyone is speaking out against the massacre except the United States. No officials from the United States criticized Israel’s action. The US only asks for little details and continues to give a lot of help and support.
He also reported,
“ We are in touch with our Israeli counterparts, who have said they targeted senior Hamas officials, and we are asking for further details.”
Savett repeated Israel’s claim that Hamas is hiding in schools and said Israel needs to do more to protect civilians because too many innocent people have died.
Izzat al-Rishq from Hamas said Israel is making up excuses to justify attacking civilians, schools, hospitals, and refugee tents. He claimed there were no fighters in the Al-Tabieen school. Israel’s military said they killed 19 fighters from Hamas and another group who they said were using the school as a command center. They also said the attack was precise and didn’t cause much damage.
According to Al-Rishq, to keep the civilian areas safe from the Israeli attack, the Resistance groups should avoid it.
A Hamas official doubts Israeli claims that smart weapons are used to protect civilians. They argue that all the people killed or injured are civilians, with no fighters among them. Al-Rishq also says that if these smart American weapons cause so many civilian deaths, it shows how bad the army and its leaders are. He thinks the weapons are not smart at all.
