International Court of Justice says Israel illegally occupied the Palestinian territories

On July 19, the United Nations made a significant decision regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict. They clearly declared that Israel’s occupation of Palestine areas violates international laws. They also warned Israel to stop such actions that are against the rules. This is the court’s most definitive stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict so far.

The president of the International Court of Justice, Nawaf Salam said that this action of Israel is illegal. They should stop the occupation os Palestinian territories.  

He also stated, “ “The State of Israel is under the obligation to bring an end to its unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory as rapidly as possible.”

Israel’s 2005 withdrawal from Gaza didn’t end its control because it still effectively manages the area. Additionally, Israel should evacuate all its settlers from the West Bank and East Jerusalem. 

Furthermore, Israel should compensate Palestinians for the damages caused by the occupation. 

The ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine is also due to continued control and presence of settlers of Israel in palestine territories. It is important for Israel to work fairly and find a justified solution for both nations. If we want to bring and maintain peace across words, then it is compulsory to resolve such types of issues. 

The ICJ sees that the main purpose of Israel behind this action is to take over the large parts that break the international laws. They believe that Israel has no right to control over these areas. In response, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu quickly rejected the court’s conclusions with a firm statement.

The Israel prime minister Netanyahu also stated, “The Jewish people are not occupiers in their own land – not in our eternal capital Jerusalem, nor in our ancestral heritage of Judea and Samaria.”

Also the prime minister said, “ No decision of lies in The Hague will distort this historical truth, and similarly, the legality of Israeli settlements in all parts of our homeland cannot be disputed.”

This decision of the International Court of Justice( ICJ) is not illegally binding. This decision holds significant influence in international laws. This opinion of ICJ might make people aware of different facts regarding Israel and prevent them from supporting Israelis. 

According to latest report the fact is also came into light that this announcement of ICJ urged many countries. They call different nations to pressurize Israel to stop such illegal actions.
