Exploring the seven useful ways to bring peace across the Middle East

by Analysis Desk October 5, 2024 0 Comment

Peace in the Middle East is only possible when Palestinians live their lives how they want and have full freedom in Palestine. International law recognizes these rights, and Israel can never deny them. The United Nations Security Council also supports ‌international rules and the ICJ has said that Israel’s control of Palestinian state is illegal.

The United Nations argued that Israel should accept ‌two-state solutions. Even though Israel has its state, it also wants to control the Palestinian state and use their power over the rights of the people. People living under military occupation cannot negotiate fairly with those who oppress them. Recently Israel’s parliament showed it does not have a desire for peace for Palestine.

The ongoing aggressive and violent actions of Israel put the lives of people in danger. Most of them lost their lives. The United States also showed hypocrisy. On one side, they want peace and the other side provides military support to Israel.

Recently, the US has supported Israel with an $8.7 billion aid package. This amount is used to strengthen ‌the military action of Israel. This military force will be used against Lebanon and Palestine.

In the last week, Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have killed thousands and forced over one million people to flee their homes. The violence is getting worse, causing fear and chaos among innocent people.

The current situation in the Middle East is very difficult. But there is still hope for peace. Many leaders across the world are very shocked by the ongoing aggressive actions of Israel and US support for it. People don’t understand why the Biden administration stood in favour of Israel and gave too much praise to Benjamin Netanyahu. However, they know the fact that Netanyahu has many charges and breaks international laws. Despite strong support for Israel from Biden and Blinken, there are protests inside the US because Americans don’t want to be part of what seems like genocide.

International regulations and diplomacy are the only way to control the situation. The solution is clear. The UN should force Israel to agree on the two-state solution and create a Palestinian state as soon as possible. This decision prevents a large war.

The Arab nations had already proposed peace in 2002 through the Arab Peace Initiative. This agreement suggested that Arab countries would recognize Israel if it withdrew from Palestinian, Syrian, and Lebanese lands. Recently, Jordan’s foreign minister confirmed that Arab and Muslim countries are still ready to make peace with Israel if a two-state solution is established.

The UN Security Council has the authority to secure this peace. The five members of the council, who are always there, the United States, the UK, China, France, and Russia, agree on the need for peace. Peace is about global security and law, not politics.

The United Nations General Assembly also made an important decision. It also supported the ruling of the International Court of Justice and warned Israel to follow the ruling next year.

The next step needed for peace is to make Palestine’s state safe and include it in the members of the United Nations. However, the Biden administration did not take any action. But there is hope that the next US government will listen to the world’s strong call for peace. This would also prove beneficial for America.

The Israel lobby will try to make the US ignore world opinion, but most Americans will disagree.

The plan for 2025 is to tell Israel to remove its military from ‌Palestinian territory. It is the first responsibility of Israel to follow the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ruling. UN peacekeepers would then take their place to keep peace.

Next, international peacekeepers would protect both Israeli and Palestinian communities during the process of disarming. All local armed groups should stop, and no outside countries should give them money. The UN would control the peacekeepers to make sure both sides are safe, helping create lasting peace.

Third, all countries should accept ‌Palestine as a 194th UN member, utilizing the 1967 borders. Fourth, Palestinian authorities have started working to make new plans that respect human rights and international law. Fifth, the UN Security Council should lead discussions on Israel’s illegal settlements and possible land swaps with Palestine, setting clear deadlines. Sixth, a peace agreement must bring stability and end conflict. Seventh, global funds should be collected to rebuild Palestine and ensure long-term development.
