Negotiating the future of the United Nation: Towards a One World Government?
The United Nation General Assembly is discussing the two important agreements. It will shape the future of the world along with the United Nation. It also makes the UN secretary General more powerful in ways that have not been seen before. According to public opinion this good move may prove beneficial for the establishment of a single global government.
Two most important negotiations are about to happen at the UN. They are currently focused on the two major agreements. One is important regarding making the United Nations more powerful. The name of this agreement is ”Pact for the Future.” Another is related to setting the rules for digital technology across the world. The name of this agreement is” Global Digital Compact”. It also includes many new things like Artificial Intelligence. Government already shared their thoughts on drafts earlier this year. Now they are planning to start meeting next week in order to finalize the agreements.
The main purpose of “ Pact for Future” is to prepare the United Nation for what comes after the 2030 agenda. This is ending in the next six years. The United Nation had set some goals in 2015. None of these 17 goals and 169 targets have been fully met now.
Despite this, UN member states are planning ahead. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres proposed changes for a “United Nations 2.0.” These changes pave the way for creating an emergency platform that makes him more strong and powerful. The main agenda of these platforms is to make the UN strong enough to respond to economic, conflict, climate, health, and other crises.
One of the suggestions given by Guterres is to create a digital public infrastructure to improve access to healthcare and other services. It includes digital ID systems and internet access. He also suggested that it is good for the UN to work directly with national legislatures. This step helps to create laws that fulfill the requirement of International goals.
These reforms would increase the UN Secretary General’s power, building on changes from 2019. Furthermore, it also allows the Secretary General to leave an impact on national policies and also pressure the government to adopt the policies designed by the United Nation. One of the new agreements is also being negotiated.
The name of this agreement is Global Digital Compact. It will govern technology platforms, including AI. While not binding, it aims to ensure technologies are compatible and accessible to all.
The basic aim of the agreement is to control global communication. This can be done by blocking certain messages and promoting others. They claim that this is the best way to combat misinformation, hate speeches and also protect human rights.
Tech companies support this kind of content moderation, which leads to censorship. This approach is already part of several UN resolutions, including one about artificial intelligence sponsored by the U.S. this year.
While they say it’s about protecting human rights, it ends up limiting free speech. The promise of global social control through international cooperation raises concerns. Tech companies backing this effort show their interest in controlling online content. The UN resolutions, including the recent AI one, reflect this trend. The move towards more content moderation under the guise of safety and rights protection is worrying. It’s a shift towards global censorship, impacting how we communicate and access information.
Tech companies like Meta and Google prefer to adopt the voluntary rules. These rules are not very clear and also don’t have criminal or civil punishment. The Global Digital Compact will make their commitment to social responsibility seem legitimate without any real responsibilities.

Even major tech companies like Meta and Microsoft, who are not typically involved at the UN, actively participated in and supported the discussions that led to the first version of the Global Digital Compact.
This summer is the expected time for the completion of the agreement, and adopted at the Summit of the Future in September during the General Assembly. Antonio Guterres Secretary- General of the United Nation invited Pope Francis. The aim of this invitation is to visit the United Nations for a second time and bless the Summit.
