IUNW Organizes Film Screening of ‘’Women for Sale’’ in Italy
On 26 November, 2019, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the International UN Watch (IUNW), the UNESCO Transdisciplinary Chair on Culture and Peace, and the University of Florence organized the first screening in Italy of the 50-minute documentary ‘‘She is not for sale.’’
The screening was followed by a debate on the politics that frame and enable trafficking for sexual exploitation in East Europe and the Middle East, including Moldova, Ukraine, Yemen, UAE and Libya.
Speakers included Dr. Theologia Iliadou, Board of Advisors, International UN Watch, Professor Giovanna Campani, the University of Florence, Dr. Vittorio Gasparrini, President of Centro UNESCO in Florence, Dr. Marina Seghetti, Secretary of Direction UNESCO Transdisciplinary Chair Human Development on Culture of Peace, Dr. Antonio Raimondo Di Grigoli, University of Florence, Dr. Serena Mordini of cooperative CAT, Prof. Silvia Lelli, UNIFI, University of Florence, Prof Tiziana Chiappelli, Cooperative Arcobaleno, UNIFI.
Speakers highlighted human trafficking mechanisms in the Middle East and East Europe citing the groups and countries that benefit from this form of exploitation. They called for stricter laws and international rules to ensure greater accountability and more protection for victims of human trafficking in the context of international and domestic laws.
The screening was attended by dozens of academics, students, activists and community members. The film will be showed at more universities and community centers in the future.
