Analyzing the strengthening partnership between Iran and Russia

Ali Akbar Velayati is one of ‌Iran’s top advisors. He recently announced that Russia and Iran are becoming ‌closer to each other. He declared this after the recent visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Iran. During a meeting in Tehran, Velayati spoke with Alexander Lavrentiev, who is Putin’s special envoy for Syria. They shed light on various important issues, such as the war between Hamas and Israel, the situation in Lebanon, and the long-term war in Syria. All of these conversations point out ‌Iran’s strategy to build a closer relationship with Russia. 

They collaborate because Iran knows well that Russia can take stronger action against Israel. And support Iranian interest in the region. Looking back in history, both Iran and Russia were good partners, but in recent years this partnership has been growing rapidly. Both nations know that by working together they can challenge the most powerful nation in the world, the United States. 

This work could cause big changes in regional politics. Iran wants to use its relationship with Russia to gain more power and fight ‌US control in the Middle East.

From recent talks, Iranian state media concluded a few points. They blamed the Zionist regime for committing crimes against Palestinians. And accusing them of creating violence in Lebanon and Syria. They also said these actions as done with the support of the United States. Along with the US, some other Western countries allow these actions. A top Iranian official, Velayati, said that now Israel should stop the massive killings. 

The report also mentioned that Lavrentiev, an aide to Russian President Putin, was pleased with his meeting with Velayati. He emphasized strengthening the relationship between Iran and Russia.

Iran openly blames Israel and other Western nations for the worsening situation in the Middle East. This meeting also suggested that the two nations work together to fight against the common enemy. 

Russia and Iran also discussed peace and security. However, it seems strange because both nations are involved in big conflicts. For example, Russia is involved in the Ruusia-Ukraine war, and Iran is involved in the conflict with Iran. These conflicts have become the major reason ‌for instability in the region. Their talks and their actions both contradict each other. 

During the meeting,  Ali Akbar Velayati and Alexander Lavrentiev also made efforts to find a solution that solved the regional crisis. The conversation of bringing peace is very hard to believe in these words. No one knows the true intentions of these nations. Will they truly work together to bring peace across the world, or are they just talking? 

This discussion happened after Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin visited Iran, showing that Russia and Iran are getting closer. At the same time, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has been busy with international trips. He just spoke at the UN in New York and is planning to visit Qatar soon.

Even though they talk about peace, their actions seem to be more about gaining power than creating real stability.

Iranian Ambassador to Moscow, Kazem Jalali, mentioned that Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin visited Iran intending to increase cooperation between these two nations. Meanwhile, Iran’s economy Minister, Abdolnaser Hemmati, recently talked with Russia’s economy minister, Maxim Reshetnikov. According to media news, the central point of their discussion is to boost the economies of both nations. 

So, ‌both nations want to increase collaboration in different sectors. Iran and Russia want mutual benefits in different areas such as trade and investments. This growing partnership may also allow them to tackle all the economic challenges, especially from external pressure.
