China’s UN Envoy Demands Israel Halt Gaza Ceasefire Violations

by Analysis Desk June 19, 2026 0 Comment

A strong and defiant plea has been made by China’s UN Permanent Representative, Fu Cong, for Israel to stop the violations of the ceasefire deal between Israel and the Gaza Strip. While speaking in a public session of the UN Security Council concerning the Israel-Palestine problem, Fu Cong pointed out the need for maintaining the sanctity of the ceasefire and said that all sides are obliged to adhere to it.

This was part of an increasing international outcry at the rising number of breaches of the ceasefire agreement that have seen many Palestinians lose their lives. These were described by China’s envoy as not only military defeats but also a serious violation of international law and agreements that work to create world peace.

Core Demands and Diplomatic Stances from China’s UN Representative

Fu Cong’s message was delivered with clarity and urgency. He outlined China’s core demands, which include:

  • Full compliance with the ceasefire agreement by all parties, particularly Israel
  • Immediate cessation of military actions that violate the ceasefire terms
  • Unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza, including food, water, medical supplies, and fuel
  • A push for a comprehensive, lasting ceasefire that ends all hostilities and not just de-escalates them
  • Renewed international efforts to advance a two-state solution for long-term peace

These demands reflect China’s broader strategic and diplomatic stance on the Israel-Palestine conflict—one that prioritizes multilateralism, international law, and the protection of civilian lives.

“All Parties, Especially Israel, Must Fully Comply with the Ceasefire Agreement”

In a pointed statement during the Security Council meeting, Fu Cong underscored the responsibility of Israel in particular. He said,

“All parties, especially Israel, must fully comply with the ceasefire agreement and work toward a truly comprehensive and lasting ceasefire.”

This statement not only highlights China’s expectation of accountability but also signals its willingness to publicly name and challenge actions it deems responsible for undermining peace.

China’s envoy did not mince words when addressing the repeated violations. He warned that continued breaches threaten the fragile stability in the region and risk triggering a broader escalation that could engulf neighboring countries.

Humanitarian Crisis and the Moral Imperative for Ceasefire Enforcement

Humanitarian situation in Gaza is still very bad, as almost 400 breaches of the ceasefire have taken place in the period after the signing of the deal, resulting in more than 300 Palestinians being killed. In a statement made by the Chinese representative at the UN, the breaches were directly linked to the deteriorating humanitarian situation.

Fu Cong stated,

“China is gravely concerned about Israel’s resumption of hostilities in Gaza and strongly condemns it.”

His language reflects not only diplomatic concern but a moral judgment on the actions that perpetuate suffering among Gaza’s civilian population.

China has consistently called for the opening of border crossings and the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid. The envoy emphasized that aid must reach all parts of Gaza without delay or restriction, and that the international community must pressure Israel to allow this access.

China’s Broader Vision: From Ceasefire to Two-State Solution

While attention was paid to ceasefire enforcement, China’s representative to the UN did not confine his speech to military aspects in the short term. Fu Cong stated China’s future vision for the region, in which the only way to peace is through a two-state solution.

He argued that

“escalating tensions across the Middle East are increasing humanitarian and economic risks”

and that without a political framework addressing Palestinian self-determination and Israeli security, ceasefire agreements will remain fragile and short-lived.

This fits into China’s overall approach to foreign relations which revolves around being a proponent of multilateralism, favoring dialogues over conflicts, and championing the cause of oppressed peoples. This can be seen in how China views the conflict between Israel and Palestine where it calls for Palestine’s independence and non-expansion of settlements.

Settlement Activities and Settler Violence: A Secondary Frontier of Violation

Beyond battlefield violations, Fu Cong also addressed the issue of Israeli settlement activities in the West Bank and the violence carried out by settler groups. He urged Israel to halt these actions, which China views as illegal under international law and as obstacles to peace.

China’s envoy stated,

“Israel must stop settlement activities in the West Bank and curb settler violence.”

This statement reflects China’s commitment to upholding international legal standards and its opposition to actions that undermine the viability of a future Palestinian state.

The use of violence against settlers and the expansion of settlements have been common causes of friction, resulting in counterattacks and making the situation even more unstable. The demand of the Chinese government to stop these activities is based on its view that there can be no peace through the use of force.

The Role of the UN Security Council and Multilateral Accountability

Fu Cong’s speech was delivered during a UN Security Council public meeting, reinforcing China’s belief in the importance of multilateral forums for addressing global conflicts. China sees the Security Council as a key mechanism for holding parties accountable and for mobilizing international consensus on peace efforts.

In addition to applying diplomatic pressure to Israel on the matter of ceasefire violations, China is also showing its approval for the role played by the United Nations in ensuring and facilitating peace treaties through its involvement of the matter before the Security Council. Through the use of language by the envoy, he is able to leverage China’s position as a permanent member of the Council. This position indicates that China has become increasingly more assertive in its diplomatic actions, especially in situations in which it feels that the Western world has been insensitive to humanitarian issues and has become biased towards a particular side.

International Response and the Path Forward

The global reaction to the speech by Fu Cong has been somewhat ambivalent, with many countries following China’s lead of pressing for an adherence to the ceasefire while others continue to be wary of taking any measures towards Israel. At the same time, there has been an increase in the number of UN reports documenting the violations of the ceasefire and killing of civilians, which creates grounds for taking more international action. International experts and officials from the UN have been advocating for international measures aimed at enforcing the ceasefire, such as sanctions and other punitive measures against violators.

Fu Cong concluded his statement with a call for unity and action:

“Renewed international efforts toward a two-state solution are essential to long-term regional peace and humanitarian relief.”

This final remark encapsulates China’s belief that ceasefire enforcement is not enough—only a political solution that addresses the root causes of the conflict can bring lasting peace.

China’s Diplomatic Push for Peace and Accountability

The urging by China’s representative to the UN for Israel to cease breaching the Gaza ceasefire is quite a remarkable occurrence in the context of China’s diplomacy regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This shows how China is dedicated to international law, humanitarian safeguarding, and multilateral peace initiatives. In light of the fact that the conflict goes on, and the ceasefire violations do not cease, the position held by China is bound to become increasingly prominent, particularly as more and more countries are calling for action.

In the end, Fu Cong’s message is clear—

“A comprehensive, lasting ceasefire should end all hostile actions and not be allowed to deteriorate into low-grade, indefinite clashes.”

This is not just a diplomatic statement; it is a moral imperative that China is urging the world to embrace.
