Israel receives continuous pressure from the globe to address Gaza’s humanitarian crisis
The United Nations greatly criticized Israel due to their aggressive actions towards Palestinians and blocking essential aid to Gaza. This blockade caused the worsening of the humanitarian crisis there. The US ambassador also urged Israel to take serious steps to address the serious situation in Gaza. Northern areas are more affected due to food shortages and other humanitarian crises. At the UNSC meeting, representatives of the Arab nations, including Algeria, called for urgent action.
The Biden administration warned Israel to improve its aid to Gaza, otherwise, Israel would lose US military support. A 30-day deadline was given to Israel from the US side to take serious action. According to the United States, Israel must send 35 food trucks and other aid to Gaza on a regular basis.
This situation highlights the increasing international pressure on Israel to permit more aid to Gaza, as the crisis continues to escalate. The diplomatic focus is on ensuring immediate help to prevent further suffering in the region.
Israel’s UN ambassador, Danny Danon claimed that by ignoring the ongoing challenges, Israel’s humanitarian effort remains strong. He opposed the UN’s stance and said that it only pays attention to Gaza’s situation and doesn’t focus on Israeli civilians who are under threat of daily attacks. Danon stated that Israel has delivered a lot of aid, including food to Gaza since the conflict started. This aid includes 700,000 tons of food, despite the fact that Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023.
He argued that the real issue is being overlooked, as Hamas is reportedly seizing aid meant for Palestinians. According to Danon, this makes it difficult for aid to reach its intended recipients. Despite these challenges, Israel is still working with international partners to continue providing aid under dangerous conditions.
UN aid official Ms Msuya pointed out the severe and critical humanitarian crisis in northern Gaza. According to her, there is a shortage of food and no aid from October 2 to 15. Furthermore, due to a shortage of fuel, many bakeries are expected to close soon.
Across Gaza, less than one-third of the 286 humanitarian missions coordinated with Israel were successful, facing significant delays.
Over time, the situation is growing worse and fights continue that block all essential needs and aid. Palestinian UN ambassador Riyad Mansour blamed Israel for targeting 400,000 Palestinians in northern Gaza. Israel launched a heavy attack on Gaza by bombings. All of these actions by Israel are considered crimes or even genocide. He requested the international community to take steps and stop the ongoing assault.
Ms. Thomas-Greenfield shed light on the recent efforts of Israel to assist those who suffer. Despite Israel getting a warning from the US, their delivery of aid progress has been very slow. Few trucks entered northern Gaza that did not fulfil the demands of the people. Also, this less aid does not overcome the growing humanitarian news. She stressed that Israel should make more efforts to deliver more aid to Gaza. For this purpose, they should open more border crossings and secure aid routes from armed groups.
She also warned that Israel’s policy of starvation is not according to international and US law. This policy violated international rules. While Israel claims that this is not its intention. Additionally, the United States will closely monitor Israel’s actions.
The United Nations Security Council has held many meetings and passed resolutions, yet the conflict in Gaza continues to worsen. This lack of success highlights a failure in the UN’s ability to resolve the crisis. Ms. Thomas-Greenfield urged the council to support aid efforts and work toward ending the conflict.
